L is for Lavos Spawn--Chrono Trigger

I got my days mixed up. This should have been posted yesterday. Oh well... here's another monster from some classic video games I played so long ago. In the game itself, once you killed the spawn inside its shell, you could move the shell around and even climb on it, so you could ascend farther up a mountain where you'd encounter.... more Lavos Spawn!

A lavos spawn is the offspring of a ultra-powerful alien being named Lavos, who wants to devour the world.

The shell of a lavos spawn is nearly indestructible, with a magic resistance of 100% and 200 hit points, requring weapons of at least +3 enchantment to do damage.

It can shoot a deadly spray of needles from this shell once every 4 rounds, with a range of 60 feet, in a 360 degree radius. All creatures in the area of affect are targeted with 1d4+1 needles, each doing 2d6+2 damage if hit.

The mouth is the lavos spawn’s weak point. Even so, the mouth still has a magic resistance of 50% and is immune to all mind-effecting spells and spell-like abilities.

It can use the following spell-like abilities as an 18th level spellcaster: confusion (3 times per day), meteor swarm (once per day), and greatest sleep (affects up to 30 HD worth of creatures, -6 to saves, once per day). It can center the meteor swarm on itself, shutting its mouth to avoid taking any damage.

  1. Mix-ups happen! No need to be too concerned about it. Happy A to Z!

  2. I love it! Think I'm going to have to find a way to work it into a game eventually. I've played but never beaten Chrono Trigger, but my wife loves Chrono Trigger greatly! She has played it quite a bit and still plays it on occasion through varies means. She would laugh at me if I threw this at her in a game :)
