The malbol is an abberant race of plant with a venus flytrap-like mouth full of sharp teeth that propels itself with multiple tentacles.

A Malbol is immune to all mind-affecting spells and spell-like abilities.

A Malbol attacks with four of tentacles for 1d8 damage each to any opponent within 10 feet. If it hits with two of these tentacles against a small or medium-sized creature, the victim must save versus breath weapon or drawn in to the Malbol’s mouth for another 1d8 damage. The victim can make a Open Doors roll to break free on the following or suffer another 1d8 damage.

Not even the wisest sage speculate where these strange beings came from. They possess their own alien intelligence, do not seem to wish to develop their own civilization. They appear to be nomadic, and never collect treasure.

  1. Those were the first FF monsters that I just really learned to both hate and fear. Running into more than two of those early on could very likely end up as a TPK.

  2. They were tough. They were also very common - I seem to recall you fought them far longer than any other creatures in the game, or maybe that's just the fear creating false memories...
